GHOSTS OF ALBION Website Live!
 The new GHOSTS OF ALBION website is now live. Amber Benson and Christopher Golden created GHOSTS OF ALBION as an online animated series for the BBC, and it has now evolved into a brand new series of novels for Del Rey, and a soon to be released role playing game from Eden Studios. At the new website, you'll find all sorts of things, including links to the original animated series, stories, Amber's production journal, and a contest, not to mention the Ghosts of Albion online store, with t-shirts, mugs, and other fun stuff. We'll also be serializing the prologue and first eight chapters of the first full length GoA novel, GHOSTS OF ALBION: ACCURSED, starting today. News from L.L. Soares
 RIGHT HOUSE ON THE LEFT - DUE HALLOWEEN 2005
Who says making a fool out of yourself in public doesn't pay off? As a result of Soares' appearance as Cornelius the Ape Boy at World Horror 2005's Gross-Out Contest, Soares was asked to contribute a story to an upcoming chapbook focusing on humorous horror.
The official line-up includes Soares, Mark McLaughlin, and Steve Vernon. The chapbook will be called RIGHT HOUSE ON THE LEFT and will be published by Novello Publishers, run by Nick Cato. Novello's previous chapbook was TWO TWISTED NUTS: A Chapbook of Testicular Terror, featured Nick Cato and Jeff Strand.

COONEY RECEIVES HONORABLE MENTION IN THE YEAR'S BEST FANTASY & HORROR
Cooney's story, "Number 808" (originally appearing in LULLABY HEARSE #5), received an Honorable Mention in the 18th edition (the 18th) of THE YEAR'S BEST FANTASY & HORROR, edited by Ellen Datlow, Kelly Link & Gavin J. Grant.
This is the second time Laura has received an Honorable Mention in THE YEAR'S BEST FANTASY & HORROR. The first time was for her story, "Wasps" in the Sixteenth Edition.

 The cover to THE MYTH HUNTERS, the first book in Golden's trilogy for Bantam, has been released (see image). You can see a larger view on Golden's website. The first book ships the last week in January. Golden has just started the second book, THE BORDERKIND.
Meanwhile, Golden and Amber Benson's first GHOSTS OF ALBION novel, ACCURSED, hits the week of Halloween. Benson and Golden are more than halfway through the second one, GHOST SONATA.
Earlier this year, Golden finished both the KING KONG novelization and a new novella for Cemetery Dance Publications, THE SHELL COLLECTOR (interior art by Glenn Chadbourne). Check out their website to order.

Soares Chapbook Appearance & Sale to AOIFE'S KISS

 Poet and fiction writer Meg Smith has been named a second-place winner in the annual poetry contest sponsored by Pulse, an online poetry publication.
Meg is also a featured poet in a new online Gothic poetry/literature

Corrine De Winter Wins Stoker Award for Best Poetry Collection
 We're happy to announce that HWA NE member Corrine De Winter won the Horror Writer Association's Stoker Award for Best Poetry Collection. The 2005 HWA Annual Conference and Stoker Banquet was held in Los Angeles, June 24-26, at the Hilton Burbank Hotel & Convention Center. De Winter was present at the awards ceremony and accepted her Stoker in person. The entire HWA NE chapter would like to congratulate Corrine on this well-deserved honor!

Rare Pulp Horror Swag For Sale from Necronomicon Press
 Rhode Island's Necronomicon Press has uncovered a number of out-of-print publications which, for the most part, were returns from dealers and bookstores. Some are slightly damaged, others are like new.
To give everyone a fair shot at these, Necro Press has put several up for auction on eBay, with more to come in the near future. You can see these items by visiting their eBay store.
Necronomicon Press is also selling a framed work by artist Frank Utpatel at a fixed price. This is the original pen and ink by Utpatel done for Arkham House in 1963 to illustrate the cover of Lovecraft's Collected Poems. You can find this item and others in Necronomicon Press' Rare Item Sales Pages.

F. Brett Cox Sale to "The Third Alternative"
 Vermont author F. Brett Cox has sold "The Serpent and the Hatchet Gang," to The Third Alternative.
"This is both the first story I've written set in New England, and the first story I wrote after I moved to New England," says Cox. "It merges two historical events: reported sightings of a sea serpent off the New England coast, and a temperance riot by the women of Rockport, Massachusetts, in the 1850's. Rockport, by the way, is dry to this day."

 HWA NE's Jeffrey Thomas, Jon F. Merz, and Douglas Clegg are among the thirty authors, editors, and booksellers who will contribute daily to the new horror-centric blog, Storytellersunplugged.com.

Lots of News From Rick Hautala
 Hautala's latest novel written as A.J. Matthews, FOLLOW, is completed and delivered. The book is due to be released in October 2005. He has also started work on his fourth A.J. Matthews book tentatively titled CROSSROADS.
Rick has delivered his latest short story collection, OCCASIONAL DEMONS, to CD Publications. All artwork for this book comes from the masterful hand of Glenn Chadbourne. CD Publications hopes to have the collection released for this summer.
UNTCIGAHUNK: THE COMPLEE LITTLE BROTHERS (most likely title) will be released in a special limited edition from Delerium Press in December 2005. Along with the original novel, this book will include five short stories and three myths about the creatures featured in this book.
Hautala also reports that a major studio has shown interest in filming FOLLOW. "At this point, the negotiations are in the works," says Hautala. "All I can say is that they're very interested, and if the deal goes through, I’ll announce it right away. Of course, I would be thrilled to have a film made of one of my books, and I honestly think FOLLOW might be the one that will work." Also, LAND OF NOD, a film adaptation of the Mark Clemens book of the same name, is making the rounds in Hollywood. Hautala collaborated with Bill Relling on this script.
In other collaboration news, Hautala has signed with Dark Horse to co-write an original CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON novel with with Christopher Golden. That book should be released sometime in 2006.

Jon F. Merz - Tons of Updates!!!
 Merz has launched VANGUARD PUBLICITY, a new business devoted to author publicity. Vanguard will launch with bestselling author Douglas Clegg as our premiere interviewee.
Merz's website, www.zrem.com, will be defunct in about two weeks, and will be replaced by www.jonfmerz.com. The new site is under construction right now. To help launch, Merz will offer his never-before-published novel VICARIOUS on the site, along with some other cool bells & whistles.
Merz reports that he's seen some of the artwork for the first issue of THE FIXER comic series. "Lawson looks great and I'm incredibly happy to be working with such a talented team of professionals," says Merz. This is the comic that ships free with THE KENSEI special edition. It may well be the only way to get this particular issue, so if you haven't ordered a copy of THE KENSEI, you can still do so by visiting www.maelstrombooks.com and grabbing a copy.
Books 6-8 in the Lawson Vampire series have now been outlined. Book 6 will be called THE RIPPER. Book 7 will be called THE WRAITH and book 8 will be THE HUNTER. "I expect to do a deal for all eight as audiobooks in the Fall," reports Merz.
About a year ago, Merz put together a proposal for a reality TV series called BESTSELLER, in which two teams of midlist authors who haven't "broken out" vie for a chance to win a million dollar publishing deal while criss-crossing the country on a booksigning junket and engaging in challenges. According to Merz, the proposal didn't meet with much enthusiasm then, but then his agent sent Merz a press release about another reality series titled "Book Millionaire." Merz & his agent dove in again and the project is now with the head of the television division at THE FIRM, a blockbuster Los Angeles entertainment company. "Nothing's ever definite until the ink dries on the contract, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed," says Merz. "If nothing else, it helps spread my name a little bit more out in Hollywood."
And last, but not least, DANGER-CLOSE could go into a third printing soon.

Doug Clegg Auctions "Vampyr-Icons" on eBay
Horror / fantasy author Douglass Clegg has launched a new promotion to help spread the word about his upcoming novel, THE PRIEST OF BLOOD, a medieval vampire fantasy due for release this fall in trade hardcover. This is book one in a new series from Clegg.
Using eBay as a forum, Clegg will auction off doll-like "Vampyr-Icons" that he has sculpted himself. The first Vampyr-Icon is available now on eBay. Just click here to view the auction!
The sculpted figurine stands about thirteen to fourteen inches high and is sculpted in clay. The auction winner gets the one-of-a-kind "Sorceress" Vampyr-Icon (Clegg's very first completed figurine sculpture), a signed and inscribed "Author Copy" of THE PRIEST OF BLOOD, plus a signed advance dustjacket of the trade hardcover of THE PRIEST OF BLOOD.

Kurt Newton Story & Interview in Red Scream Magazine
Kurt Newton recently sold a 5000-word short story titled "Thirty-Two Scenes From A Dead Hooker's Mouth" to Red Scream Magazine.
The story will appear in the same issue as an interview with Newton. The exact issue has yet to be decided (possibly issue #2 or #3).
